Permissions you grant

recorder.video can only see your screen, webcam or microphone after you allow it in your browser's permission prompt, and you can revoke that permission from the address bar at any time. The live preview, background blur, drawing tools and MP4 encoding all run on your device; the background blur model is served from this site and runs locally, so your camera image is never sent anywhere for processing.

Where recordings live

While you record, each take is written in small pieces to this site's IndexedDB storage. That is what lets the app recover a scene after a crash or an accidental reload. Recordings remain on your computer until you delete them in the app or clear the site's data in your browser. Each video or GIF you download is also listed under recent exports (up to 24) until you remove it. Layout choices and the colour theme are remembered in local storage.

Automatic captions

Captions are optional. The first time you turn them on, the app downloads an open-source speech-recognition model (Whisper, about 75 MB) from Hugging Face (huggingface.co and its hf.co file servers) and keeps it in your browser's cache for next time. Hugging Face sees that download request, including your IP address. Transcription then runs on your device: your audio and the resulting text are never sent to Hugging Face or to us.

Server-side processing

The site itself is static and hosted by Cloudflare. Serving it involves routine request data such as your IP address, browser user agent and the URL you load, which Cloudflare uses to deliver files and to filter abusive traffic. We use this only to keep the service up and secure (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Retention: [TO COMPLETE: log retention period].

Measuring visits

recorder.video uses no cookies and no advertising. Visits are counted by two cookieless, aggregate analytics services, Cloudflare Web Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics, which report page views, referrers, approximate country and browser or device type. They place nothing on your device and do not track you across the web. They also have no access to your camera, microphone, screen or recordings. Legal basis: legitimate interests in improving the recorder (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Because no identifiers are stored, you will not see a cookie banner. We never sell or share personal data, so a Global Privacy Control signal changes nothing: there is nothing to opt out of.

What you can ask for

You may have legal rights to access, rectify or erase your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority. Recordings and settings are held only by your browser, so you stay in full control of them: delete takes in the app, or clear recorder.video's site data to remove everything.
